As of Saturday, September 3rd, 92.1 WCTQ in Sarasota has switched from being a modern country station to a “Gold” country station – meaning it plays hits of yesterday, not today – a format not found very often in Florida. They will be playing a heavy rotation of 90’s country, per Country Aircheck.
Here’s an excerpt from the newsletter we received announcing the move:
WCTQ/Sarasota, FL has shifted to gold-based music with the new position “Country’s All Time Favorites For The Suncoast.” Mediabase analysis shows the station has not played any currents in rotation since Saturday (9/3), and the playlist is now 100% gold with an emphasis on the ’90s. “We’re excited at the opportunity to deliver this broad selection of hits that country music lovers hold dear,” says SVPP/Sarasota Frank Harris.
We hope that more markets will have stations that adapt this format, as many would agree that much of the music to come out of Nashville in recent years has been less appealing.
