Carolyn Dawn Johnson, best known for hits such as “Georgia,” “Complicated,” “I Don’t Want You to Go,” “One Day Closer to You,” and “Simple Life” will be hitting the road for a list of select shows with Martina McBride on the George Strait tour as a guitar player and background vocalist.
Carolyn says in her newsletter, “Some of my favorite memories in my musical journey are from when I toured with Martina McBride, I know I’m not the front person here, and it doesn’t bother me at all….I love Martina, and I love to make music, so it’s a win win combination!”
Carolyn will be part of Martina’s band for her show in Orlando on February 11th, so make sure you keep your eyes open for her if you’ll be at that show. She was most recently in Florida (that we’re aware of) for the 2008 Kiss Country Chili Cookoff, where she was one of the opening acts along with Sawyer Brown and others.
Carolyn is also an accomplished song-writer, having written hits such as “Single White Female” for Chely Wright and “Downtime” for Jo Dee Messina. In 2002 Carolyn won the ACM Award for Top New Female Vocalist. Born in Canada, she’s had more success north of the border in recent years than she has had in the US, as she’s won multiple awards up there over the years, including the Canadian CMA’s Female Artist of the Year in 2002, 2006, and 2007.
