Fort Myers Appears to be Losing Country Station

We are passing along a story from today’s Country Aircheck industry newsletter about country radio station 93.7 WHEL out of Fort Myers:

Flip Service? No official word, but Sun Broadcasting WHEL/Fort Myers ceased regular programming at Noon ET today (1/18) and started playing all Taylor Swift music in what points to a format change. The “Hell Yeah” format that had been on WHEL is now being heard on W231DC, a 245-watt translator that covers Fort Myers proper. WHEL had been Country since Sept. 2020, first as “Trump Country” (CAT 9/16/20), then adopting the “Hell Yeah” moniker three months later (CAT 12/18/20). Looking at the three-way battle in the December Nielsen survey, WHEL slipped to 16th place with a 1.7 share, while Renda WWGR was seventh in the market with a 3.7 and iHeartMedia WCKT was 11th with a 2.7.

If we hear any further information about this, we will pass it along!
