In the ever-changing world of country radio, another Florida legend is leaving our airwaves. In a Facebook post this morning, Roger Todd announced that he is leaving 97.5 WPCV (Lakeland) to move closer to his children in Tennessee.
Here is what his post said:
Seasons in our lives change and Jan and I are turning to the next chapter. It’s going to be tough not waking you up every weekday morning , however it’s going to be a Blessing for Jan and I to be closer to our kids. I have accepted a Morning Show position in Knoxville, Tn. and Wednesday morning will be my last day on 97.5 WPCV. Together we’ve laughed a lot, cried some, raised a ton of money for our kids at St Jude, fed hungry kids in Polk County, won a CMA and an ACM award and hopefully we leave Polk County better than when we arrived 15 years ago. You guys are the BEST! When somebody needs help you step up! We Love You Guys! You welcomed us with open arms when we arrived and we consider you family…Thank You for that! So over the next couple of mornings let’s remember the Good Times! A Big Thank You to Art and Bonnie Rowbotham, Nancy Cattarius, Mike James, Bob Walker, Jim Reed, Julie K, DJ Thee Trucker, Tom O’Brien, Melissa Moran and the entire staff at 97.5 WPCV for this great run!
In addition to his CMA and ACM wins, his morning show won the SFCM Favorite Morning Show award a record 7 times (2012 through 2016, tied for 2017, and won again in 2019) and he won the SFCM Favorite Male On-Air Personality a record 4 times (2012 through 2014 and 2019).
It appears this was at his own choosing and not a layoff like so many others are suffering lately. We wish him well in his future endeavors and thank him for his contributions to the local country music scene!
