Earlier this week, Tiny from WIRK announced that today would be his last day on the air in South Florida, as he and his wife Taryn are moving to the midwest to be closer to her family.
Tiny Wirk has been a friend for many years and has always been good to both myself and SFCM. In an industry where it is rare for a DJ to stick with one station for more than a few years, his longevity at WIRK Country is quite a testament. Even better, it appears that he’s leaving on his own terms rather than being forced out.
From being there for Miranda Lambert‘s first South Florida show at Pete Rose’s Ballpark Cafe in Boynton more than 10 years ago when maybe 50 people showed up to all of the WIRK Rib Roundups, Tiny has been a mainstay on the South Florida Country Music scene longer than just about anyone. He will be missed around here, but thankfully with social media, we’ll hopefully all still be able to remain friends with one of the few tolerable Jets fans 🙂
