  • It appears ESPN’s Monday Night Football is not quite done with country singers doing an opening song for their weekly broadcasts.  After controversial comments made last year by Hank Williams Jr. led to ESPN pulling the plug on his long-standing “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight” opening, it has been announced that Charlie Daniels will be doing a modified version of his “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” for tomorrow night’s Broncos vs. Falcons game.  It is supposed to be a one-time performance, and there is no word on what ESPN plans on doing going forward.
  • Vince Gill was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, September 6th!

  • The 2012 CMA Awards announced their nominees earlier this month, and Eric Church led the way with 5 nominations.  He had lost his phone while on vacation, and was swimming in the Gulf of Mexico when the announcements were made.  He didn’t find out until he returned from vacation.  “I really don’t even know what to say!” Church said. “I’m still a little bit in shock… I’m truly speechless. I think it’s a testament to the fans that believed in the music… loved the music… and told people about the music because otherwise we don’t really have the track record to be the most nominated at this point in our career. I think that it’s truly because of the fans… they did something I think is going to be judged as pretty special.”
  • In other Eric Church news, he will be recording a live album in Chattanooga, TN over the course of two shows on October 8th and 9th for an early 2013 release.

  • Luke Bryan recently had  a scare, as he started to choke on a piece of flatbread pizza.  Luckily, he had a friend with him who performed the Heimlich Maneuver to help him dislodge the piece of food that had stopped up his wind pipe.  “I had a friend do the Heimlich on me last Monday in a pizza restaurant.  It was pretty freaky there for about 30 seconds,” Bryan says in the current issue of People Country.  “A piece of flatbread pizza flaked off and got lodged in my airway, and I went down. He picked me up and got it out of there.”
